“It’s Just A Game…Isn’t It?” or “Reflections on baseball, babies and basic necessities”

Yup, the Giants lost last night.

Lots of fans like me are mourning and lamenting the sad reality that the even year streak is over.

The 2016 World Series Champs will not be the San Francisco Giants.

I admit, I followed the game to the bitter end.
We lost in the worst possible way.
Our relief pitchers gave up a huge lead when it mattered the most.

  • The closers didn’t close out the win.

  • The relief didn’t relieve the pain.

  • No one saved the game for the Giants.

And now our season is sadly over.

There are many more who could care less about baseball.
Who didn’t follow a single game.
And they are just fine.

And that’s OK, because after all, it’s just a game.

We’ll get over it. We’ll move on.

There’s always next year.

But this is a new day and a new morning and the world keeps turning.

In San Francisco and across the ocean, there are things happening that are FAR MORE IMPORTANT than the game of baseball.

This month of October 2016, I’ve committed to raising awareness and raising funds for two organizations that are near and dear to my heart: ALPHA PREGNANCY CENTER and re:ACTS MINISTRIES.

For several years now, our family has partnered with these amazing faith-based ministries whose hearts beat to help the hurting and the hopeless locally and globally.

Alpha Pregnancy Center provides free and confidential services to clients with compassion and Christ-centered grace. APC offers pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, baby clothes, toys and diapers for struggling families in San Francisco’s Mission District. APC offers parenting classes and supports women who are faced with the difficult decisions that come with unplanned pregnancies.

re:ACTS Ministries is an organization that partners with local ministries in Thailand and Cambodia, helping to provide underprivileged children of Chiang Mai with food, shelter and education (House of Faith and In Your Hands), as well as serving families and children in the slums of Phnom Penh (Cambodia Slum Ministry).

For single mothers and struggling families in San Francisco…

For children in Southeast Asia in need of basic resources like food, shelter and education…

…this isn’t just another game; it’s a daily reality.

Here’s how you can help!

  • You can help close the gap between basic needs and sufficient supply.

  • You can help bring relief for the suffering locally and globally.

  • You can help save a life.

Support APC’s WALK FOR LIFE and re:ACTS Ministries OctoberFast in any of these specific calls-to-action:

  • Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
  • Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. – Romans 12:15
